Well this is a long time coming, but I finally have some time during spring break here to get it out. The start of 2016 has been extremely busy and stressful for me. Let me explain:

A Change of Pace: Dad's Birthday and the Grand Rapids Marathon

Today is my dad's 55th birthday and because he's so cool, he decided to run a marathon! Since my race season is over, I got to spectate alongside mom and cheer him on as he has done for me so many times. I also joined him for the last 4.5 miles!

2015 Warrior Dash World Championship: Pulaski, TN

After finishing 15th at last year's Warrior Dash World Championship, I was looking to improve on this placing. If I'm being honest, I really wanted to finish in the top 5 and had even dreamt of winning. However, four of the top five guys from last year were returning so I would have to do my best to try and keep pace.

The Warrior Dash. It’s what got me started running in the first place. Back in 2009 I did my first race just outside Chicago, Ill. and I’ve done one every year since. Back then I was just doing the Warrior Dash for fun with my family. I still do the race for fun because winning is fun, right?

2015 Rhoades McKee Reeds Lake Triathlon

Three years ago in 2012, the Reeds Lake Triathlon was the first ‘big’ triathlon I ever competed in. I finished 14th that year (and got chicked by Abby Geurink!) and remember telling my friend, James Fry, that one day I would be up on the podium.

2015 USAT Olympic Distance Age Group National Championship

Every year USA Triathlon puts on a national championship for the top amateur triathletes in the nation. I decided to do this race in part because of some peer-pressure from my friends Todd and Sam Kennedy (thanks guys). Since I had already done the collegiate national championship, I wasn’t sure why I should do this race too. However I am very thankful that I ended up doing this race because it was an even better atmosphere and experience than collegiates.

Early on the morning of Wednesday, November 27th, 2013, the world lost an amazing woman in my grandma. She was one of the most loving and generous people that I ever had the pleasure of knowing. Even better, I had the great fortune of being this woman's grandson. This means that she spoiled me rotten growing up and even when I got older! I'm not sure that there is anything I can say that will even come close to describing how much I am going to miss her, but I am going to try.
